This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the DMV. Food is fresh and great presentation.

This place is a glorious exception to all the sushi in DC sucking. I’m a tried and true sushi eating west coaster who bemoans even the best sushi in these here parts. We were here last night and ordered things I thought wouldn’t be great but were interesting and absolutely everything was glorious. We will absolutely be back.

Best sushi at this price point you’ll find in this area! Highly recommend the creamy scallop roll, the winner, and volcano rolls. I can’t wait till I can go back again

Wow I can’t even tell you how much I love this place
I’ve been here about 4 times and every time the food is so amazing! They have happy hr with drinks and rolls on the menu, the bar is really small but when it’s nice out they will also serve happy hour outdoor!
Definitely recommend!!

By far the best sushi in the DC area! Came with a friend and we were more than impressed. The winner and A-5 wagyu were to die for! Also the Uni shooter is a must try. Thank you to Matt and the team for exceptional service- we will be back!

Man was I so excited to try this place because of all the good reviews. To my disappointment, it was not good at all. Everything really lacked flavor, the sushi tasted old, and it was a mess. Would not recommend.

I love Yume sushi and have been here many times with friends and also solo on Valentine’s Day weekend (which was empowering as I truly enjoyed the best sushi!)

Parking is a bit difficult as it’ll be hard to find street parking on a Friday or weekend but there is a garage nearby as well for retail parking but it’s under an apartment so sometimes it gets pretty packed but it is free.

They have a regular menu and a special menu which they also have a iPad you can review in more detailed description of the sushi. They also have a happy hour menu Mon-Fri 4-6pm only sitting at the patio or sake bar.

Their happy hour includes $4 house beer, red/white wine and chilled sake. For appetizers/salads, they have baby octopus, seaweed, pickled cucumber and house salad on the happy hour which is usually surprising to see many so options. They also include a long list of roll or handrolls on their happy hour menu which is awesome and includes many of my favorites including bbq eel cucumber roll and soft shell tempura. They also offer $2 off of speciality rolls.

The winner is a must get here and it’s so delicious. It won the morikami award in 2006. It is bbq eel, seared foie gras, tuna, French caviar on a bed of sushi rice with eel and carpaccio sauce, truffle oil and balsamic reduction. The foie gras just melts in your mouth and you need to try to get all pieces in a bite together with the sauce. Definitely worth the money in my opinion.

My other favorite off the special menu is the seared butter miso scallop that includes 4 pieces of seared Japanese scallops with butter miso and truffle wasabi. The scallops tasted so fresh and smooth.

My fiancé isn’t a big fan of sushi so getting him to go out to dinner with me in a sushi restaurant is difficult. The sushi restaurant usually must have other options such as Japanese steak or ramen so I can enjoy sushi but Yume sushi is one place we can both enjoy as long as he gets two orders of their Uni pasta. They’re pretty small portion but it’s so creamy, buttery and delicious. It has garlic noodles with uni, ikura and caviar.

The smoked salmon tataki is very unique of thin sliced salmon that is lavender infused with a jalapeño and garlic ponzu sauce that’s a bit sweet but tangy with a subtle kick. A truly unique flavor of salmon!

Another unique aspect of Yume sushi is you can create your own rolls which you typically don’t see at many restaurants. They give you the option to select how you want to wrap the sushi, select protein and then select the sauce on top.

My favorite drink to get is the Yume blossom that has sake and gin and I’m typically not a gin drinker.

Sometimes it does get very packed but every time I’ve gone service is attentive. There are times when you may end up waiting for some time but if you’re with good company it doesn’t feel long at all.

The food was great but the service was bad. We were a table of 6 celebrating my friends birthday. Our waitress was not the best and kept making mistakes. First she brought out a $16 margarita that no one ordered. We said that was ok and someone drank it.

Then she brought out a chicken tempura that she said I ordered. I never once said chicken all night. We had ordered $1000 worth of sushi, why order chicken on top of that?  So we said you know someone will eat that too.

The last mistake just showed she didn’t care at all. We ordered 3 pumpkin cheesecakes. I got mine and started eating it. Didn’t taste like pumpkin or cheesecake. It sure looked like cheesecake. But then I looked at the other two orders and they were completely different plates. I asked the waitress and she explained that it’s the same. The chef told her so. And then she elaborated that they ran out so the chef said this was the same. WHY WOULD YOU BRING ME A THING THAT I DID’T ORDER AND PRETEND IT WAS THE THING THAT I DID ORDER AND NOT EVEN INFORM ME ABOUT IT????  These things were $12 each.

Now settling the bill was uncomfortable. She stood there while we were splitting the bill and pointed out many times that the tip was not included.  She became very happy when she saw and the end that we were giving her a full cash tip.

Like I started with, the food is great. Nothing was bad expect ironically the chicken tempura. That being said the waitress made the whole experience feel tainted. It just makes it feel like the whole wait staff is trained to be that way. They need to be more transparent with their customers.  Especially if they are charging the prices that they are. We happily paid the prices for the great sushi but were very unhappy with the experience.
