TRU is one of my favorite spots in Chapel Hill. It offers a wonderful overall experience with delightful staff, a welcoming atmosphere to all, and delicious food and drinks at an affordable price. I’m always impressed at how TRU can keep its prices low with such fresh ingredients.
TRU has a laid back and beautiful atmosphere that is always inviting and accessible to everyone, whether inside at the nice wood carved tables or outside on the open patio. It’s not intimidating like other wine bars can be and offers food and drinks at price points more accessible than other restaurants in the area. To call TRU classist is simply laughable, given how they’ve made such an effort to keep their prices low when others in the area have not. And I think we can all agree that ordering online is not some challenging novel experience — it’s 2022, y’all. We’ve been doing this for years across so many aspects of our lives and it’s become a convenient system for most.
I love going to TRU and always have a great experience here, whether food, drinks, or both. With a great atmosphere, affordable food and drink, and inviting staff, I know I’ll keep coming back.
Awful. Came here tonight at 7:45pm with my wife and 5 other UNC Chapel Hill Med school residents. We will never return.
I was able to get my wrap order in at 7:50 but none of the rest of our group was able to. We were told the system would refresh in 15 minutes and the rest of my party could order. At 8:30 the system finally came online again after a lot of stressing that I would be the only one of us who could eat dinner tonight. One of our group left just before this to go home and eat dinner, as he had given up hope he would ever be able to order.
My wrap arrived at 8:45 along with those that remained of my group. My wrap (tortilla size) was half the size of my wife’s and one of our group received a completely incorrect order (ordered roast beef, Turkey, and ham, and received just roast beef). We were told nothing could be done other than a refund because the kitchen was now closing.
To all Med school students and residents…avoid this restaurant if you would like to eat any food after a long day of work. You will leave hungry and they simply don’t care.
Super tasty sandwiches and salads. You order and can exactly pick what you want in them. Healthy and tasty choices in a nice indoor and outdoor settings at great prices too! Defn recommended and will return!
This was simply outstanding. Maybe a little pricey, but not much. Terrific quality and portion sizes, and I loved their cranberry sauce. Will definitely be returning.
I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a larger group of friends! The first thing that stood out to me was the cute vibe of the place. It’s a very dark, cozy restaurant.
The ordering system was odd. You have to create an account, order your food, and enter payment info via the website. I wasn’t a huge fan of that system but it was definitely unique.
Looking further into the menu, I noticed a lack of variety. This place is mainly sandwiches, wraps, salads. It reminds me of a bougie Subway. The sandwich I ordered was good, but it was something that I could’ve easily made at home.
As for the parking, there’s parking in the adjacent garage for free on Sunday’s.
Overall, I’m not really a huge fan due to lack of variety from their menu but I’d consider returning to try the drinks as the restaurant has a great atmosphere.
I love Tru so much I spend an absurd amount of money here and attend multiple times a week. Sandwiches are amazing and drink deals are insane. The one problem I have is the music. The playlist is so awful always and I know that not every employee listens to early 2000s pop rock and 2010s top charts and ABBA. All great in the right context just actually comical at Tru as an establishment.
The ordering system is annoying if you want to pay for a group of people. Also, having to provide your credit card information just to make an account to order food is a terrible system security-wise. That being said the food was also average at best. The ingredients were decent but I ordered 6oz of bacon on my sandwich and got a single slice, I would have found someone to remedy the situation but since there are no waiters and only one server (who was not readily available) I just decided to forget it. Just go to Panera, the food will be just as good and a lot less hassle.
Honestly, my favorite place of all time in chapel hill!! Such a great atmosphere to hang out outside on a warm day as well as a cozy interior to relax in. Drinks are fantastic with great prices and the ordering system is extremely convenient. The only thing that would make this place better would be expanding the food menu, perhaps including charcuterie or various simple appetizers! 10/10!
Ordering system is so frustrating. I came here for the first time in a long time–couldn’t remember my password, but there’s no option to change your password. Tried to make a new account, but it wouldn’t let me since my email was already in the system. Finally managed to log in, but my card had expired and there’s no option I can see to update the card. Not worth it. I’ll go somewhere else.
Super cute place, it’s especially nice when the weather is good because they have lots of outdoor seating. I didn’t have high expectations for my sandwich because I’m usually very picky about sandwiches from restaurants, but this one was delicious! I got turkey, pesto, and cheese on toasted bread and it was all excellent.
