Big E’s Smokehouse has a reputation for serving little brisket with slabs of fat.
Skip the sausage. It’s not made in house. Tastes like the local grocery stores brand.
The service was great. The Barbacoa was moist not a lot of fat. Brisket, not my thing, was very good.
Our party of 9 absolutely loved it. The barbacoa is smoked and NOT greasy. The tamales are big and flavorful- of course the kids were super pumped about the flaming hit ones. The brisket melts in your mouth. The only downside is that we live in San Antonio and Big E’s is in Brownsville. The owner offered to mail us our orders. We definitely will be stopping at Big E’s each and every time we are in Brownsville.
So glad that we found Big E Smokehouse. We headed there for lunch and they nearly ‘sampled us to death’. They broke out bites of brisket, brillia, pork tamales, and other awesome bites. We finally settled on a plate of brillia and brisket with flour tortillas, pickles, and onions. They added some bites of sausage for us too.
I think if there is anything that is a downfall at this place is that they limit the menu according to the day. Pork ribs are on Thursday. Beef ribs are on Friday. On Sunday, they have several items that are only available on Sunday. But, that’s okay. They have a pretty small kitchen and their smoker is not huge – so I get it. With their great flavors and serving attitude, I hope they grow to offer more of their items every day.
We’re already making plans to go back for ribs Thursday night and to pick up a couple dozen tamales to take with us when we take off for SPI next week.
Y’all gotta try this bbq joint. I have heard of this place and saw a picture that called my name and man was I glad I went. The smoked mac and cheese sandwich was the bomb. Can I still say that with out offending or scaring anyone off? The picture as beautiful as it is, does not give it justice. Y’all can thank me later.
It’s start with butter toast, soft buns and then they pile a generous portion of brisket and as this isn’t enough they put a big scoop of smoked Mac and cheese. I had to ruin the sandwich by adding sausage, and don’t think I could go back with out it. Just my humble opinion.
Evan and Cristina (owners) treat you like family and make sure you are very well taken care of. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
I am now looking forward to the smoked barbacoa and the rest of the menu. But I gotta keep my pace and take it easy! Keep on smoking!!!
Hands down, best barbacoa in Brownsville!
Smoked to perfection. Very delicious. The place is cared by some amiable folks. They even let you try it before you buy it. Very hospitable.
We live in Austin and surrounded by smoked meats. When we come home, we crave smoked meats. We were lucky enough to see their ad on a car while stopped at a light. Highly recommended.
