A few of us hadn’t been here for awhile. The prices were decent considering the portions were big. They offer a couple of unique menu items such as the sashimi salad and sushi pizza. I liked the sushi pizza as it was sushi on top of crispy rice bottom. There are a few vegetarian options. For the entrees you can choose to have black or brown rice for an additional $2.

It wasn’t until later that night that half of our group didn’t feel too great due to the sashimi they had. We won’t be back for awhile.

Service was very good. Ambiance was good and quiet. Food was great tasting and came out pretty quick. Perfect for a quick lunch break place.

It’s been too long since we’ve had sushi so we decided to try out Sushi Uomo Japanese Restaurant. They’re close to Anton’s Pasta Bar and Tentatsu Japanese Restaurant.

We have been for two visits; both times for a late lunch. The inside is cute with about 8 tables and pictures of their dishes hanging up on the walls everywhere. Service was friendly and tea is offered.

The menu is massive but condensed onto two pages; appetizer, soup

Decent taste and price. The restaurant was a bit stuffy but they had proper social distancing.

I was enticed to try Uomo as their sushi is rated highly, but I think maybe the high rating was for Uomo fish.

I only order avocado and mango sushi every time I order sushi anywhere. Avocado usually tastes the same everywhere, but mango doesn’t. I understand that it is hard to get delicious and sweet fresh mango fruit, but it isn’t hard to get sweet dried mangoes from Asian stores. I am not sure where Uomo is getting their mango from, but it isn’t as sweet as I thought it would be.

I ordered sushi from here through ubereats! They were pretty good. I loved the spicy salmon roll maki sushi, spicy chopped scallop maki sushi, and crunch roll maki sushi.

The takoyaki and prawn tempura, compared to other sushi restaurants, was a bit small… but they were still good. Just not something I’d order again from this restaurant due to portion size and price.

Spacious and quiet place when we went. The servers were friendly and had a good atmosphere inside. Great for families.

We ordered toro sashimi as well as some à la cart nigiri sushi. I ordered an unagi sushi but I think our server heard “inari” which is tofu skin. I told our server and she was very apologetic, she got us our unagi and said they will comp the inari piece.

(From top left: negitoro, inari, hamachi, ama ebi, chopped scallop, tobiko with quail egg, ikura, toro, tuna)

Fish was all really fresh, the only thing I think can be improved on is how the fish is sliced for the nigiri, and how the rice ball is moulded.

All in all, fair value for what your get

Tasty sushi place on Hastings, near the top of the hill.

Parking is available on Hastings as well as the side streets. There is also a decent sized lot on Gilmore behind the block.

The place looks Japanese on the inside, but I’m pretty sure the staff are Korean. I think it’s family run. Staff are friendly.

The place offers free miso soup as an appetizer. Sweet.

Sushi sashimi bento – nice fresh pieces of fish. Tempura was nice and fluffy. Salad was fresh. Deep fried dumplings were nice and tasty. Came with 4 pieces of nigiri (salmon, tuna, ebi, and some white fish). They lightly sear the rice, which makes the pieces nice and crispy.

BC roll – pieces are large but thin. Tasty.

Prices are a wee bit higher than the competition, but the quality is definitely there.

I will be back. Recommended.

Limited space for dine in but we decided to order take out this time around. It was quite hard to get through on the phones. It was actually our 2nd time attempting as the week before the phone just kept ringing and ringing without anyone picking up. Wait time for pick up on a Friday night was about 75 minutes but when we got there, it didn’t look like they had a ton of orders?

We got the chirashi don, crunch roll, dynamite roll, and lady mango roll. I wished the fish was a bit more fresh in the chirashi don and the rolls were only okay. With the abundance of sushi restaurants in Burnaby Heights, would probably pick somewhere else to go to.
