Super great breakfast food and coffee! Best place around for breakfast I’ve been to. Great prices too! Super kind waitresses and always friendly! Everyone always seems to be enjoying themselves and it’s a great family place to be. I will say that breakfast is better than lunch from what I’ve had- they really are known for how hopping the place is for breakfast… the burger I had was kinda bad I’m sorry to say… I loveeeee a good burger but they were unfortunately nothing to be remembered by…… they should re name themselves to being a brunch place because seriously breakfast is where it’s at!!
Growing up in Maine in the 50s and 60s . There used to be burger joints that served like a steamed burger with great fried onions. I was told that Roy’s is like that and it was. to me it was a throw back in time with a great bite for a fried onion cheese burger. I was lucky and was on the road for business in the LA area and found it this place was the real deal.
don’t go there thinking about a burger for $20 in a fine bistro that is not Roys nor should it be. It’s a great place that has great food and very reasonably priced. Hope I get another assignment in the LA area..
Wow, the food was awesome! We decided to take a drive and our son told us about this place. We decided to try and it was worth the trip. They have a great group of friendly people too. We will definitely be back!
If you enjoy tiny, unseasoned, overpriced burgers, this is your stop. Mostly friendly staff, but if you’re sitting for breakfast except to hear all sorts of abusive comments between employees. The kitchen conditions are falling fast as the owner doesn’t want to put money back into the store. Avoid any mayo based meal such as the Lobster, tuna salad, or chicken salad. Just 1/3 meat, 2/3 mayo, no extras no seasoning. Soups are sold as homemade, arrive in bags. The fish chowder being the exception, but bland. Quality of served product is inconsistent. Secret from the back of house? The sweat onions sit in 5 gallon buckets for weeks before they hit your burger…
Excuse the splash of Ketchup on the napkin…I did that on accident. The presentation of the meal looked like the photo subtract the Ketchup. The burger patty was very thin. Some of the fries were a little too brown/overcooked for my taste. The taste was fantastic. They do not provide a free refill. For the price I paid for this meal I thought I would at least get one free drink refill. A little over $12. I am from out of town so I can’t say for sure if this is a decent price. I’m from a different state so this price to me is a little too much for this meal. The staff was very nice and prompt with getting my meal cooked. They do not take cards or checks CASH only. Glad I had a little something since I didn’t know and I typically pay with a card everywhere I go. The tables were clean. Salt Pepper and Ketchup available. Napkin dispenser was full. They did not provide me with a receipt when I paid for my meal so be sure to ask for one if you keep your receipts. Overall it was a decent meal. Not sure if I’ll return again while I’m here but hope this review helps.
Food was basic without any frills . Home cuts fries was my fav to the meal of hamburger and fries. I made home made pickles so wanted to try out a local momma and poppa restaurant for a hamburger. I’m not a usual hamburger eater to begin with and these were okay. The fries however was fresh and delicious. My ultimate favorite food item. You better keep your eyes on your fries as they say when you’re around me 🙂
My hubby’s steak sub : He said the steak was dry .
My next try would be their breakfast menu. I definitely want to try their beef hash.
Cash or check only.
This is a great spot, in fact the best spot in the L/A area for burgers! The burgers are small so you may want to order 2. The service is great and the food even better. You will want to try it out and bet you will be back it’s that good!
Best burgers ever!! My only suggestion, get a plain cheeseburger! These are true steak burgers where they grind up the meat fresh and the best way to experience them is just plain and simple! The first time I got it I had toppings and felt it was an “ok” burger. After listening to my sister who swore by their plain burgers I got just a cheeseburger with nothing else and it was a million times better! I have never had such a fresh delicious tasting burger. They are very thin which I actually prefer over a thick patty and the steamed buns are so fresh and tasty! The hand cut fries always come out fresh and crispy. Service is quick and you can’t beat the prices! We always love to stop here on our trips to Maine!
Best breakfast in town! My weekly stop! Seat yourself, cash only (ATM on site or across the street) awesome staff – we love Kathy, Sandy and Emily. Wife and I can have breakfast for $13 including tip! Sunrise is my favorite and she loves the Roy’s McMuffin.
I have driven by this place too many times to count. Finally took a leap of faith and tried it out today. First things first – cash only, totally cool with this and their no frills approach … but that no frills, low overhead business model should mean a better bang for your buck. Portions are very small for what they charge and I honestly didn’t find their burgers to be overly tasty or anything special, essentially a local “McDonald’s” with slightly better quality. The crinkly cut fries are very good however and if you like fries get a large because a small is just a tease. Service was fine, nothing special, establishment could use a little sprucing up bit otherwise acceptable for what it is. Overall not bad but yet another place I more than likely will not go out of my way to return to and not my first recommendation in the area for a good burger.
