Amazing Thanksgiving sandwich. I think it should be on the menu year round! Great lunch spot.
Overall nice restaurant for the family to visit. We’ve had their food a couple of times and have enjoyed it. However, I have to say the most recent experience has left a sour taste. We were there around 3pm or so on the weekend and were told they couldn’t seat us because we didn’t have a reservation. At that point we pointed to 3 tables that were all empty and the hostess tells us they are reserved for 45min from then. We did say we’ll be very quick (we honor their commitments etc) and also that we had two kids under 5, but there was no understanding from their part – the hostess was plainly repeated the words (almost like a parrot) – “we are booked” 4 times. That is NOT how you treat repeat customers. I understand if you can’t seat us but be reasonable and address what the customer is requesting and make them feel heard somewhat. Not a tall ask.
Rj Grunts! i just grunted! my cousin in law ordered the buffalo wings with his own money. i took a bite and i knocked him out cold on the table so i could eat the 11/10 wings! this is an epic restaurant. i ordered an oreo shake. Literally the best oreo shake i have ever had. lol! i went over to the kitchen and crossed over a sign saying employees only and i asked who made the shakes. this cool looking attractive girl pointed me in a direction. i think it was northeast but yeah. i asked the man what his name was. i believe it was Keaton. Keaton you are the man bro! come over to my apt and watch the bears game with me!
Honestly such good food. I’ve not had a bad experience there. Personally I love the BBQ wings! I’d definitely come back just for those.
Overall this restaurant has the best overall relaxed vibe! The food was great! Honestly, I think probably everything on their menu is. We will definitely be back to try other wraps, burgers, or apps!
I have been coming here for years, and despite COVID ruining the salad bar (it still exists, but only in a digital format), RJ Grunts never disappoints. Definitely make a reservation if you can because this place is busy day and night. Ambiance is very casual yet cool inside, and service is always good. The food is fantastic. On my most recent visit I enjoyed a cheeseburger and fries, but the French dip is also a favorite. Value is very good considering the quality and quantity of the food (SO MANY FRIES!). I took my niece and nephew here for the first time recently and they raved about it: it’s definitely a good option for kids, and its location right across the street from Lincoln Park makes it extremely convenient. I hope to keep coming back here for many more years to come.
This place is as great as ever. Covid ruined the salad bar. There’s no longer discounts on the salad for ordering with an appetizer or entree. But I eat less as I get older so it doesn’t sway my review.
I always get beef au jus with the Mr. Chicken. It’s a tastier combo. I forewent the chips in favor of a side salad. The lemon basil vinaigrette is great!
Milkshakes are still terrific. I love getting the silver canister of my refill!!!
Potato skins were okay ! The burger bun was too hard … I prefer a soft toasted bun ….quality of the burger was ok but I don’t think it’s worth $17. It’s not Au cheval!
RJ Grunts is a solid, delicious spot for a hearty lunch or dinner. You can choose the build your own salad (formerly a salad bar which has retained its high cost but lost a significant amount of “free” customizability), a sandwich with chips, or a burger, and you’ll be happy. I’ve been here a few times, usually in conjunction with a visit to the zoo. You should definitely get a reservation. The space inside is tight and usually packed with families. The service is friendly but curt, and it’s definitely a get-you-in-and-out kinda place.
On my latest visit, I had the french dip sandwich, and it was SO good! The bread was delicious, the meat was flavorful and juicy, and it was a filling sandwich. At $16, it’s one of the cheaper sandwiches on the menu, but all of their sandwiches/entrees only come with chips- you have to pay extra for fries. My fiance had the bacon
RJ Grunts reminded me of an upscale Applebee’s or Chili’s in terms of its kitschy décor, cartoon menu, and classic American fare. Our server was very friendly, but our food took an extremely long time to arrive. While we waited, we asked if we could share a basket of French fries, which were ready way before our meals were. The fries were decent, but a bit soggy. When my main dish arrived, the self-created chopped salad was massive! It contained all of my selected favorite ingredients, all of which were fresh and crisp. I really appreciated being able to build my own bowl of veggies and customize it to my liking.
RJ Grunts definitely was a fun spot. It is super casual and probably best for grabbing lunch or a beer with friends.
