This place will have a special place in our hearts since it’s where we came to celebrate our recent engagement!

A friend recommended the chef’s menu and so glad we did. To celebrate the occasion they gave us complimentary champagne toasts which we thought was very sweet!

For the first courses, we chose the sweet corn tamale, sweet potato chaat, and the poached king salmon salad. Our favorites had to be the salad and the tamale! Such great savory flavors in those. The dressing for the salad was perfect salty sweet paired with the salmon.

The second courses we chose the beef tartare, wood grilled yuba, and the crab taglioni. I personally really enjoyed the taglioni – it was so delicious with the crab and the sauce! Felt like it was a unique flavor combo. My fiancé loved the wood grilled yuba – I believe it’s in the tofu family but resembled mushrooms a lot in texture so if that’s your liking you should go for it!

Course three was the Thai yellow curry with seafood variety and wood grilled tenderloins. I have an affinity towards Thai curries and this one was absolutely delicious! I finished every single bit of that sauce. The pork tenderloin was very flavorful as well.

As for the desserts you get the alfajores tart and roasted corn

The restaurant was OK, nothing really special. The service was OK. Again. Nothing special. The top shelf margarita was $34.00. Just saying… wasn’t worth it.  We should have known the experience would be less than anticipated from the hostess at the front door who wanted to seat us at a small bar along the service kitchen and when asked if we could have an actual table she escorted us back to the hostess desk, then told us she could give us a small table but we’d have to be out by 7:30 pm. Our reservation at the restaurant was 5:45 pm., and we were on time.  There’s a nice way to inform a guest that your restaurant is going to be busy and ask politely for the guests to limit their experience. Maybe,… “I have a table for you, and if at all possible, would it be possible for you to help me out by allowing me to reseat your table at 7:30.”  It’s all in the way you word it, but that does require training and skill.  A better restaurant would not have such an untrained and unfriendly person greeting their guests.  The food… well small plates, maybe different flavors for Chicago, but nothing special that you wouldn’t find in an average restaurant in San Francisco or another major city.  This restaurant is a one and done for
Me.

West loop spot! Delicious food. Recommend: the steak was good, the prawns were delicious. It was a small plates place so we needed 2-3 of each item to feed our table of 6 girls. Drinks were good. Stepping stone tequila drink is what I want to try next time. I went with excellent company so i could be biased but I liked it.

SPECTACULAR MENU, PRESENTATION, AMBIENCE, AND SERVICE.

I took an out of state visiting friend here to celebrate her birthday and it was the best choice ever! This experience proved that Chicago does indeed have some of the best restaurants.

I highly highly recommend the Chef’s menu. It is SOOO WORTH IT! We were able to try so many different dishes and it was A LOT of food! It’s basically a 8 course menu. Again, the presentation was beautiful for every single plate, and the taste was even better. I am Korean and the final entree tasted so authentic – I was very impressed.

It’s hard to pick a favorite but mine has to be the beef tartare. I would highly recommend and definitely see myself coming back!

Beautiful restaurant. Food is MID at best but way overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. Honestly not worth it.

4.5/5. Chef Andrew Zimmerman – bravo! We had the tasting menu and would recommend! Portions were on the smaller end for sure but it was welcome as no one was full up to dessert (which is nice so you can enjoy it a little more). Most courses came out at a decent pace but there was a period of 30 minutes where it was stagnant. Really enjoyed the tamale, short rib and dessert off the tasting menu (depicted). Drinks were great. Would return!

We had some a great time at Proxi. We are visiting Chicago from the Bay Area and all of the staff at Proxi were so fun and welcoming. Truly a great night. We did the tasting menu at the chef’s table. Each dish was better than the last. Fun bar, fun vibe. We will definitely be back whenever we visit Chicago.

Went to Proxi with somewhat high hopes. Had a 7pm reservation arrived at 6:50, had to wait 5 minutes, was seated at 6:55. Waiter asked us for our wine order at 7:00, we said, give us another minute, he came back and at 7:05 and we gave him our order. He comes back 2 minutes later gives us our wine and we say we are ready to order, he literally disappears for 20 minutes, we Finalky can order at about 7:25, then we sit. And 7:45 we ask him uh hey dude, wtf is going on. Instead of taking responsibility for not firing our order he blames the kitchen. Well the other table he had that sat down at 7:35 got two dishes before we got our first, but yeah, it must be the kitchen. First dish is the duck pancakes: well duck is delicate when you bury it in sauce, you can’t taste the duck, also the pancakes were not strong enough to be picked up, you had to eat it with a knife and fork. 🙁

Next item was the Banh Khot – while it tasted pretty good it was supposed to be pork belly and shrimp and I could not really tell it even had shrimp in it. Next was the steamed creamed coconut custard. OMG why didn’t we just get like 3-4 orders of this!? Freaking amazing. Would come back to eat only this. Next up was a achiote cod – really good and the little cubes of jicama were amazing. Super solid dish. Last was the NY strip and we got the side of the grilled broccoli. The NY strip was well cooked and well seasoned, but the sweet potato mash was like really sweet. Almost seemed like sugar was added – how was this supposed to add to the NY strip. The grilled broccoli was quite good. We were too scared to order dessert as we thought it might take another 30 minutes.

4 star food (with some misses), ~2 star service. Super disappointing- will not come back. 🙁

Absolutely LOVED dining at Proxi!! Walked in on a Friday night and the place was buzzing. Luckily someone cancelled and we were able to get a table fairly quick. The host was super welcoming and promptly got us seated.

This place has a such a fun vibe to it. The interiors are chic and add to the fun vibe. The menu has an international flair. Chef Andrew Zimmerman and in his team have a curated a menu that would cater to everyone and explore the palate of different countries.

They have a small plates sharing concept and we enjoyed trying a bunch of the small plates from the menu. The things we tried were the Bay scallop Crudo which was so refreshing and delicious, loved the watermelon and scallop combination . Next we tried the Tater Tot Chaat, which was an instant favorite. It’s a unique  take on a popular Indian street food. The Achiote Braised Black Cod was perfectly cooked and bursting in flavors. Loved the curry accompanying it.  The Thai yellow curry with the coconut sticky rice was also delicious, we couldn’t stop eating it. The Roasted Potatoes had a nice flavor and the miso Hollandaise on it tasted great. Finally we had the Indonesian Chili Chicken and Smoked Lamb Chops. Both the dishes were excellent. That chicken was perfectly grilled and not dry at all . The lamb was exceptional and the gravy that came with was amazing .

Overall we had a wonderful dining experience. The service food, and ambience was a 10 on 10! Highly Recommend this place.
