Proud Mary

The hype about this place was amazing and although I’d been here previously and thought it a bit ho hum, I’ve returned and found it much better. This is why you can’t take a place on just one visit. Proud Mary did the place Proud today.
I went for brunch and the place was jam packed with people, a little noisy but kinda had a funk going on that was enjoyable. Coffee was better than last time. Nice and hot and not too much froth. Eggs were nicely cooked and toast perfect.
Service – fabulous. Very attentive and despite being busy, they took our order quickly and service was fast. Thank you.
Notes: Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking is as you would expect in Collingwood.
Look forward to coming back again.

As good a flat white as I have ever had. The breakfast options are varied and excellent. The staff is very friendly.

Best breakfast I have had in a while. Eggs cooked perfectly over excellent buttered toast. I added a side of potato hash and they were scrumptious; crispy on the outside, moist and tasty on the inside. We also had the hot cake, which was a bit of heaven on earth. So many flavors! Don’t forget to the coffee! Best coffee I’ve had, probably ever. It was seriously that good. Rumor has it they might be opening a location in Austin. Close enough for me! In the meantime, I will be back to this location before I head back to the states.

Found this restaurant​ via Yelp review. This was my 1st time in Melbourne, and although I wasn’t staying in the area, I made the trip to check it out.

It was a lovely summer day, and there is outdoor seating option. Inside of the restaurant is very spacious, and not overly loud. You can seat at the table, but they also have bar seats by the window if you wish gawk at people on the streets.

Going midweek at 11am, seating was a breeze. My waitress was prompt to take my order. I had a large flat white-yummy.

I had seen the ricotta hotcakes and I had my heart set on that but the current menu has a different type of hotcakes.  The one I had had brown butter curd, sour cream cheese..etc.
The waitress did let me know that it takes a bit of time to make ~10mins. No worries, I was not in a rush.

I also ordered​ a side of Kale salad to balance things out.
The salad was as expected, the leaves not to tough and the dressing was good. It’s pretty small, literally, a side.  Don’t order it as a main meal.

While the hotcakes looked, the taste was not pleasing to my palate. The hotcakes were on a bed of white jelly like substance which totally freaked me out as I thought it was raw egg whites and I had to ask a staffer what it was made from. He returned later to say it’s made from eucalyptus​. Despite thing, I still couldn’t enjoy it was too much like the texture of raw egg whites. The look and also the texture. I am NOT a fan of raw eggs in any way shape or form, so you can imagine how I felt eating around it. And this impregnated​ my mind with the fact that the hotcakes tasted “eggy”.
Ideally, I wanted to get another plate so I can take the hotcakes out of that substance but I couldn’t get the attention of the staff so I just kept using my knife to remove it from the hotcake base.

I had the scrambled roti and my mate the smoked salmon and both were 10/10 . The coffee was exceptional and one of the beat coffees in Melbourne. I would be coming back soon for sure.
