They do not skimp on the food at all. They pack the box to the brim so much that it’s insane. You can literally feel the weight of the contents. At the lunch combo prices, it’s ridiculous how much value this is. Easy 2 meals if you wanted to, especially if you drink water on the side.

Lunch Combo E – fried rice, sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, and crab rangoon. So much meat with an okay amount of vegetables, I was full for so long. Taste was solid too – nice and fast Chinese food slightly more authentic than a Panda Express. I was thoroughly impressed.

My story with this place starts some 10 years ago when I rented a studio next door. After long days of work it would be my go to place. The lady and man that run the place were so nice to me and now that I’m married with children this is still our go to place. Love the food love the people! Highly recommend orange chicken or walnut shrimp!

Ordered to go and they put the dressing on the Chinese chicken salad and it was very soggy. Should be on the side. They also put some type of herb in it, I think it is mint?
Ordered their catering size chow mein and it tasted like cardboard. Their eggrolls and orange chicken tasted OK.

WOW I am so impressed with this place! The portions are so generous, possibly the largest among all the Chinese places we have ordered from recently (and we order a lot of Chinese food).

As for taste, absolutely delicious. The imitation orange chicken was amazing; my boyfriend said he didn’t notice much that is wasn’t actually chicken. I had been missing the vegetarian Chinese food I used to get in Oakland, so I’m delighted to have found New Canton.

The chow fun had the “wok hei” (wok aroma?) taste that I always look for as it’s a fundamental feature of Cantonese stir-fry. That tells me their chef is the real deal!

Black bean fish came loaded with veggies, and the green beans and tofu had a nice flavor and balanced proportions of the veggies and tofu.

I think we have found our go-to Chinese spot in this area! It’s also nice because they also run Tea Juice right next door (the two sides are connected) so you can get boba too!

We like this place. Food was yummy. One star less cause although I pre-ordered with a set pick up time through Yelp due to time restrictions, we Had to wait for my food to be ready.

What a nice surprise! We stopped in for take out. I was expecting the usual fare as far as menu selection for a small Chinese restaurant; and I was also expecting the usual range/depth of flavor with the meals (especially being outside of San Mateo and Millbrae).

The menu caught my attention as it featured a lot of dishes beyond what you’d typically find. We ordered pretty standard things, but will look forward to trying some of the house specials next time!

When we got home and opened the boxes . . . I was very surprised to see a rich color to the food. And the flavor definitely matched. The portions were generous and well-balanced in terms of the provision of meats/fish and veggies. The noodles were soft and chewy, the pan-fried dumplings had a nice thick and chewy shell/skin with a solidly fried bottom. The sauce on the chicken was thick, with just the right balance between salt and spice.

One or two dishes were a little on the greasy side, but nothing to complain about.

We had leftovers tonight, and the dishes really soaked up the flavor! Even better the second time around.

Order: Pan-fried dumplings/potstickers; beef chow fun, rock fish and asparagus, and kung pao chicken. We made our own rice and veggies (fried dandelion greens w/ garlic and salt).

First time to go order was the hunan vegi-chicken, kung pao chicken, won ton soup (based on another review), and szechuan broccoli (also based on another review). The flavors were nice, all the sauces very rich and oily. The kung pao had good flavor, but the veggies were underdone and there were hardly any peanuts (we like them!). The hunan vegi-chicken was tasty and the veggies done perfectly, but I would not rush back for it. Broccoli was also cooked right, and had good, if unremarkable flavor. My main disappointment was the won ton soup – the broth flavor was only salty, no delicate aromas, and the won ton did not have great flavor or texture. The other soup ingredients were fine, but it’s the broth and dumplings I look for. A mile away you can get won ton soup that is in a whole different class for freshness and flavor at I Dumpling. OK overall, but lacking pizazz, and there’s a lot of competition nearby.

The main reason why I drive into San Carlos was to buy a clock.  But when all was said and done I also came across a wonderful little restaurant called the New Canton. I’m always a little skeptical of places I have never tried before.
But I just had a feeling about this restaurant.  Like a movie you’ve never seen before but you know it’s going to be good. That’s how I would describe this place. It seemed like ordering  ahead online then picking up your food is the way the locals do it here. I tried to order online but the site was frozen. But no worries, since I wanted to go inside and get the feel of the place anyways. I placed my orders and took a seat. After a short wait everything came out hot, and it sure smelled good! Even on the way home with a 25 minute drive ahead of me, this food did not smell typical like other places. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Some of the best stir-fried veggies I have had in a long time. Meats were very tasty and tender. I will be back!
