Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza – College Hill

Adequate. This place is adequate. It’s not excellent and it’s not terrible.

The staff borders between “adequate” and “friendly.”

I got the Tartufo pizza. It’s a mushroom sauce pizza with mushrooms on it. It was fine. I am a mushroom eater. I love mushrooms, I always have. These were fine. It was adequate.

If I ever decided to come here again, I was thinking of getting the Margherita, because that tends to be a standard and delicious pizza at most Italian themed restaurants I have gone to.

My partner got the Salsiccia pizza. It has pepperoni and sausage on it. He gave me a small taste. A bite of it. His response to his pizza was that it was fine. It was adequate.

I took the bite he offered me and it was so SOUR. wow. The red sauce is sour. Holy moly. I am so glad I didn’t get a red sauce pizza.

Also, the parking lot is cramped. We pulled in to a tiny spot made smaller by someone who parked over the line. But we needed the shade since my dogs were in the car. And someone else pulled in right behind us so we couldn’t pull in to the spot we actually wanted to.

Then, pulling out, the person next to us was on their phone, probably using it as a GPS. No problem. But then we pulled out and were behind them, driving slowly away because it’s a small parking lot. And the person started backing into us! They would have hit us. They didn’t even LOOK.

My partner honked. And we got out of the way.

I didn’t even mention that they gave my partner and me different forks. Mine must have been a dessert fork and his was normal. My fork was too heavy and oddly shaped. No knives to cut the pizza and this weird fork wasn’t helping. Just another weird thing there.

We won’t be returning.

The wood pizza is always good. I have found the cannoli to best the best in town until tonight. Low grade, stail crust and the filling was runny and tasted like eagle brand condensed milk.

And choose an open table with your number, very efficient! Pizza is to die for, we went there two times – once for my birthday and my son’s birthday a week and a half later, both times were absolutely bomb!

For what this place is it gets 5 stars but you have to be willing to go up to the counter and order your meal. Don’t be fooled though it is delicious and served fairly quickly. This is probably also a great place to order delivery from. But if you want something nice quickly and where you can get a salad and drink with your pizza this is a must-try. They do bring the food to your table and the young man was very nice and helpful. He regularly checked on us to see if we needed anything else to drink and was quick to clear away any unwanted dishes.

Came here for the first time and was thrilled with the service.  As soon as I walked in I was greeted and the counter staff was very patient with me as a first time customer with questions.

It is not a traditional sit down restaurant as you have to order at the counter and then take a number for the food to be brought.  The service was amazing though, my cup was never empty and there was always someone checking on our needs at the table.

The food I thought was just ok, but I’m going to give it another chance at some point due to the superior service.  The pasta was a bit bland despite adding in prosciutto and caramelized onions.  The pizza was better though.  Crust was perfect and the portion size was very decent for the pricing.  We had enough for both of us to take home an extra meal in leftovers.

Definitely give this place a try if you’d like a more upscale quick serve experience.
