Strange atmosphere and clientele.  Arrived early (before 5) on a Tuesday.   I was the only customer.  The female bartender was very polite and attentive.

A man came in, and, although I was the only one at the bar, he sat next to me.  Because I was meeting someone, I moved.

When my friend arrived, the female bartender had just gotten off.  The guy that took over for her had zero personality and acted like we were putting him out whenever we asked for something.

As people began to filter in, it got stranger and stranger.  A threesome sat next to us, and the woman next to me apparently felt that half of my chair belonged to her.   I moved, yet again.  They proceeded to argue with Mr. Personality about why they didn’t have gumbo that night.  They didn’t – the end.

Another man at the end of the bar looked like he might pull out an AK47 at any moment and hose the joint!

I felt like we were in an episode of The Twilight Zone.

We won’t be back.

P.S.  The food was good, but it’s pretty difficult to mess up a BLT and a burger.

A tast of Baton Rouge. Where the locals go. Delicious food prepared fresh with authentic Louisiana flare. Note, that definitely does not mean, hot… it means properly spiced with herbs, etc.  The ceiling is covered with dollar bills upon which people have written notes. Oh yeah, GEAUX TIGERS!!!

The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the food could have been seasoned a little bit more, but overall it was a great experience and I would definitely go back. The environment was fun and I enjoyed the food a great deal! I didn’t drink while I was there, but I definitely want to go experience the bar aspect sometime soon.

The vibe at George’s is very chill. The roast beef poboy was really good. We’ll for sure be coming here again soon!

If you forget the fact that the place si under a bridge, dark and dollar bills everywhere. You have a great spot in Greorge’s. Had the Georges Special Steak Burger. Very tender, juicy and well accompanied by fries. All the nearby plates looked amazing. The po-boys are well recommended as well.  Bar with great local selection of draft and select beer. Lady at the counter very kind and explained menu details.

Love it. As I live in the area, it’s one of my go to places. The only time I get to eat cooking that tastes close to homemade – just like my mother used to make. Also, the best po-boys in town. Such a friendly place. It’s got a real neighborhood bar/eatery sort of feel and often times when I enter, I’m greeting a friendly smile and pleasant conversation.

There are also daily specials. The last time I came in for lunch, I had the Shrimp Etoufee. It was cooked really well. Not thin at all as the case when some restaurants try to do, etouffee. Ended up going twice that day because my sister and her husband asked me to meet them there for dinner. I almost declined since it would be my second time in one day but remembered the cheese fries so I met them to be social and had cheese fries for supper – living large, their cheese friends with jalapeños added are a must try as well! Should be noted that when I told time about my lunch there the same day it made them want Shrimp Etouffee as well. They both got the same dish that I had earlier but weren’t as impressed. My sister thought the shrimp tasted sour and her husband said the shrimp were over cooked and tasted like they were sitting on the stove all day. Granted this was around 8:30 so that’s something to consider if you come in the later hours.

Either way, George’s will always be one of our regular places and you shouldn’t hesitate in giving it a shot.

We love George’s po-boys and sides. We’ll be sure to stick to them in the future and AVOID the specials. On two different occasions we tried them and both times they were unbelievably salty. I’m not kidding. The other morning after eating the pot roast special the evening before, my ring wouldn’t fit b/c I was so bloated from all the salt in that meal.
Their po-boys are really good though and I highly recommend them.

In a dark duck-off under the bridge you can find this old chill spot called George’s. Every inch of the place has a story from the pictures on the walls to the signed dollar bills hanging from the ceiling. The menu has so many different things to choose from, each meal more delicious than the next and all priced extremely reasonable. The service is fast and friendly and surprisingly sociable. The alcohol was a little overpriced and no drink specials but still not too bad. I recommend this hidden getaway for a night out with friends or a private date!
