According to an article published in the Sacramento business journal, Bento Sushi in Fair Oaks was served a 3 day notice to vacate the premises by Petrovich Development back in February of 2022. Apparently, they are still operating in dire circumstances.
My family and I were frequent patrons of this location until today. After nearly two years of dining and some recent terrible experiences, I can see some of the problems with their operation. Im going to watch them fail and close for good.
Before they close, reopen, and repeat the same mistakes again, I will draw some contrast between the failed business practices of bento fair oaks
I always have a great time when I’m here. Sue is always my favorite server and she is just super enthusiastic and makes the experience of being there so welcoming. The food will always be what it is, but I’m always a sucker for amazing service being in the service industry myself. Will always be coming here.
If I could give this place negative stars , I would . We came in , a group of 6 and a small child .My friend stopped an employee to ask if they had a booster seat and the man just says “I don’t know I work in the back “. OOOKAY..??. She ends up getting up and finding it for herself . Whatever. We wait now for our server . Takes a while considering it’s only us and I believe one more couple there. Most of us wanted to do the all you can eat sushi but a couple in our group absolutely HATE sushi and just wanted to grab some chicken off the regular menu . Server informs us that if any of us do the all you can eat sushi, We ALL have too. It’s $28.99. So just to be clear, she is saying our friends have to buy a 28.99 meal they will not partake in at all and they would ALSO have to pay for the meal that they are actually going to eat as well. This is obviously NOT going to work so we ask if we can just sit at separate tables then ? She said “NO, you made a reservation and you are together ” !! Our minds were blown . She was so rude about it too! WTF? How can that even be Legal?? Needless to say we walked out . This is unacceptable. I do not know how a place like this can even stay in business !!! Do NOT spend your money here , take your business to mizuki sushi . That place is delicious! And , you only pay for what you actually order ! Imagine that?!!!
Food is good but the service is terrible. Do not make online orders here!
I made an online order and I arrived when it was scheduled to be ready (40 min later). The guy at the front said he’d check on it. He pretended to then told me it would be a few minutes. 20 minutes later I ask again, he then realizes the order was never started because they paused their online ordering system (what???). Another 20 minutes and my food was ready but I got home and it was missing an item. I contacted Bento for a refund on the item and no one ever replied.
It’s a cute little place. It’s clean and the staff is friendly. My taste buds were not a fan of the sushi or spicy edemami rolls unfortunately. We tried about 7 rolls and liked the Snowstorm the best; the rest is not anything we’d order. I wish they had every roll on the belt, but that wasn’t the case. Warning, if you are a spicy edemame fan, it’s not anything like you’re used to, I guarantee. It’s only a dry rub and it’s not good.
10 stars! Sue was a gem! Fish was fresh and food was delish! I would be back in a heart beat!
I first came to Bento sushi towards the middle/height of Covid, when they had a ~$30 AYCE option (anything on the menu). Later into Covid that option was sadly removed. After calling in every few weeks vigorously asking about an AYCE option, it was brought back (now $28, but limited menu). For the price, the AYCE option is great. Good quality rolls, apps, desserts on the rotating dividers throughout the restaurant. Staff are extremely friendly and the seating is fairly quick. I’ve only ever been here for the AYCE, so I can’t speak to specific rolls, but I would definitely come back again.
Bento revolving .. is a platform of for dine in @ all you can eat on a very different level . It’s style and creative way of making you feel welcomed is unequivocal .Emma has this genuine and warm smile upon entry into the establishment and her execution was absolutely flawless . She is a great reflection of the brand she is representing at her Job. Thank you Emma for making me feel welcomed
Sue was an amazing person with an excellent customer service! It was my mother’s birthday and we came here to celebrate and Sue was able to make it memorable for her!! We would love to come back and hope to see her again!
The sushi that are warm are fresh, including the gyoza, sesame balls and takoyaki. The revolving belt is all you can eat.
This was a delivery order. I am only reviewing for the restaurants food.
We decided to try new sushi rolls so got: Fugiyama: crab, avo, topped w scallops
