After a loooong day of hiking, my group and I decided to grab some food around Newcastle as one of them lived there. I wanted something soupy as it was extremely cold during and after the hike (did not expect it to be windy too omg) and found this restaurant.
The location that my group and I went to is located in Newcastle next to MOD Pizza on the corner of Newcastle Commons Dr and Coal Creek Pkwy SE. There’s a parking lot with some stalls and street parking around the area.
We all got a hot towel to wipe our hands with and a miso soup to start. Not many places serve miso soup as a starter without having to side order! Starting the meal off great!
I wanted a comfort food with soup and got their Yosenabe (seafood udon). Suuuper comforting! The broth was just right with umami and flavor. It was a simple dish that it wasn’t something super special, but it definitely hit the spot! I was so hungry that I burnt my tongue and the roof of my mouth LOL. Worse feeling ever. My boyfriend wanted their Tempura Basket that came with a bunch of tempura foods, salad, and miso. But our server misheard him say ‘appetizer’ so he ended up with the tempura appetizer and asked for a side of salad and rice which was additional. He still enjoyed his food even though it wasn’t fully what he wanted. My friends got the Tonkotsu Ramen (flavorful but kind of salty), Nabeyaki Udon with chicken, poached egg, and fish cake (different broth from mine but in a good way as I enjoyed the soup!), and Dolsot Bibimbap (no picture but delicious! Lots of flavor going in the bowl of bibimbap).
Great restaurant for Japanese cuisine. I’m not too sure about the sushi, but they looked pretty darn good! If I’m ever in the area again, will definitely try that next time.
Their sushi has been consistently really good. Ordered for pickup over the phone. I like the dressing they put on their Aji salads too.
Super find after a long day…. We were looking for a nice, clean, genuine experience and this place hit the mark.
A great place for some good quality sushi and bentos! I’ve been here twice and the sushi is good quality.
I love how they give you warm hand cloths to wash your hands before eating. It feels so good and refreshing.
They have Korean and Japanese dishes here. I usually get sushi rolls, but this time I tried a bento box. The bento was very filling-it came with a salad, gyozas, tempura, rice, and your choice of meat.
Their rolls are good, but kind of small for what you pay for. I compare this place to my favorite izakaya back in Oregon where they have similar menu items and quality of food, but bigger rolls!
My friend highly recommended this place so we went. It’s was kind of busy on a Thursday night but I’m glad we did not have to wait. I love that they provide us warm/hot towel to clean our hands. We all got free miso soup and that’s a plus!
All the sushi are pretty fresh, Toro was good and it melted on my mouth, however it’s hard to chew in some part (like there’s a string in it, not actually a string but idk what’s it called). The sushi rolls are pretty yummy. It gave a good amount of fish or other ingredients than rice. Chicken teriyaki is a big portion! Chicken is slightly to dry for me.
Food is good. Customer service sucks.
Cashier is rude.
The asian lady (cashier) is so rude!!
I go here most often for sushi. Mainly because it’s super close to my house but I think the food is good. Sometimes it’s not consistent but 90% of the time it’s good. Parking is pretty bad tho so you might need to park across or down the street. For the owners I would recommend doing a pick up spot.
We did take-out for dinner last night. We feel so lucky to have such great quality sushi in Newcastle. It was delicious!
Great friendly service. The menu is very diverse and full of surprises and whatever you choose the food is always excellent. Highly recommended.
Tucked away sushi restaurant that is totally worth the trip. The sushi was great and the sake selection solid.
